Ange Postecoglou will finally make his home debut as new Nottingham Forest manager after four consecutive away matches in the hot seat for the Reds.
The Australian, brought in swiftly after the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo, oversaw a tough 3-0 away Premier League defeat to Arsenal in his first match in charge, followed by a 3-2 Carabao Cup collapse at Swansea and then a 1-1 draw at Burnley before the midweek Europa League trip to Real Betis.
The 60-year-old will be keen to pick up his first league win for Nottingham Forest but won’t find things easy against a physical and pacey Sunderland side.
DRAW: Burnley 1-1 Nottingham Forest. Saturday 20th September 2025.LOSS: Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest. Saturday 13th September 2025.LOSS: Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham. Sunday 31st August 2025.DRAW: Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest. Sunday 24th August 2025.
Sunderland’s battling point against Aston Villa, where they played nearly two thirds of the game with 10 men after Reinildo’s first half sending off, underlines the quality and determination in evidence in the Black Cats team this season.
A summer spending spree of £150m on a host of new signings following promotion from the Championship has given Regis Le Bris’ side more strength, experience and energy as their eight points haul from their first five games – and seventh place league position – shows.

Big Ange could be in for a happy home debut as Nottingham Forest are the 17/20 favourites on the Spreadex fixed odds to get all three points against Sunderland, who are priced at 10/3 for the win, with the draw 12/5.
Our Match Odds 2 Up market pays out on either side going two goals up in the game. Here Forest are 4/5 with Sunderland 3/1.
Recent history in this fixture is however against the hosts. You have to go way back to August 2003 to find the last time Nottingham Forest beat Sunderland – a 2-0 win when Marlon Harewood and Matthieu Louis-Jean were on the scoresheet.
Admittedly there have only been three other matches played between the sides at the City Ground between then and now, with Sunderland winning all of them, and two of them by a scoreline of 2-1. A repeat of that score is priced at 12/1.

On the Spreadex football spread betting markets, the hosts are seen as reasonably strong favourites with a Goal Supremacy quote of Nottingham Forest/Sunderland (h) 0.5 – 0.7. This means a 'buy' bet at 0.7 would need Forest to win by at least a goal to start turning a profit (e.g. one goal win would win 0.3 x your stake, two goal win 1.3 times your stake, three goal win 2.3 your stake etc.).
A 0.5 'sell' bet would need either a draw or Sunderland win to turn a profit (e.g. draw would win 0.5 your stake, one goal Sunderland win 1.5 your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is a relatively cagey 2.6 – 2.8. So a 2.8 'buy' bet would need at least three goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Alternatively, a 2.6 sell bet would need two goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 2.8 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 2.8 times your stake if the match ended 0-0, lose 1.8 times your stake if only one goal was scored in total or lose 0.8 times your stake if two goals were scored in total. In the 0.7 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, if the game ended a draw the bet would lose 0.7 x your stake. If Sunderland won by one goal then it would lose 1.7 x your stake etc. And in the 0.5 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.5 x your stake on a 1-0 Forest win, 1.5 x your stake on a 2-0 Forest win etc.

Nottingham Forest fans will be streaming into the City Ground on Saturday asking themselves what they can expect from their first glimpse of ‘Angeball’ on home soil.
Tottenham’s Premier League matches under Postecoglou averaged 3.47 goals per game (264 total goals in 76 games over two seasons) with Spurs scoring 138 and conceding 126 of those.
His two league games under Forest have seen five goals scored in total, however the only two league games to be played at the City ground so far this season have seen seven goals scored in total.
For punters who expect the open, expansive Postecoglou approach to continue, then our Total Goal Minutes market could be of interest with a quote of 130 – 140 (total of all the minutes of all goals scored in the match). Other options to look at include Goal Rush at a spread of 30 – 33 (points awarded for number of goals scored in the match, 0 for 0, 10 for 1, 20 for 2, 33 for 3, 50 for 4, 70 for 5, 100 for 6 or more), Goals Cubed at a spread of 37 – 43 (number of total goals in the match cubed, e.g. 4 goals would equal 64) or Rainbow Goals at a price of 7.5 – 9 (0 or 5+ goals scored = 25 points, 1 or 4 goals = 10, 2 or 3 goals = 0).
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. So for example if the game ended goalless then a Total Goal Minutes buy at 140 would lose 140 times your stake, a Goal Rush buy at 33 would results in a loss of 33 times your stake, a Goals Cubed buy at 43 would result in a loss of 43 times your stake but a Rainbow Goals buy at 9 would result in a profit of 16 times your stake.
