Get ready for the 2025 Ryder Cup! Spreadex Sports has you covered with the latest odds, spread betting markets, and everything you need to know before the 45th edition of this legendary contest tees off on September 26th at Bethpage Black. First played back in 1927, the Ryder Cup has never failed to deliver drama – and we’ve got all the info punters and fans will want before it begins.
The Ryder Cup takes place every two years in September. The 45th Ryder Cup begins in a few weeks on Friday, 26th September, and concludes on Sunday, 28th September.
The venue for the Ryder Cup changes for each competition, alternating between Europe and the United States. The 2025 Ryder Cup is held at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York. A par-71, the 7426-yard course is notorious for being one of the most difficult in the world.
Since its inception in 1927, the United States has won the most Ryder Cups with 27. However, since 1995, Team Europe has won 10 of the last 14 contests, including the most recent event in Italy at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.
Team Europe won the 2023 Ryder Cup 16 ½ - 11 ½.
The Ryder Cup format consists of 28 match play competitions contested between Team United States and Team Europe.
The format for both the Friday and Saturday is the same, consisting of 8 matches each day (four foursome and four fourball). On the Sunday, the format changes to 12 singles matches.
Each match is worth 1 point for your team. You win the Ryder Cup by being the first team to 14 ½ points. In the event of a 14 – 14 draw, the reigning champions retain the cup.
Spreadex has a number of markets available for the 2025 Ryder Cup. These include both spread betting markets like our Outright Markets and traditional fixed odds markets. Team USA is currently the favourite, at 4/6 to regain the Ryder Cup. The holders, Europe, currently sit at 6/4, while punters can back a tie at 10/1. You can find out more about how to bet on golf markets with our golf spread betting guide.
The Ryder Cup consists of two teams of 12 players. Each team has a captain who historically doesn’t play in the competition.
The United States captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup is Keegan Bradley. The 2011 PGA Championship winner is currently ranked 11th in the world and has recently enjoyed some improved form on the tour.
Luke Donald replaced Henrik Stenson as captain of Team Europe for the 2023 win in Italy, and he takes the reins again for the 2025 competition, becoming the first captain since Bernard Gallacher to captain a team in back-to-back competitions.
Throughout the year, players can earn ranking points by performing well and ultimately winning tour competitions. The top six players eligible to play for either team are then guaranteed their spot in the Ryder Cup team. The automatically qualified players are:
Europe: Rory McIlroy, Robert Macintyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Højgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton
United States: Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russel Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau
The remaining six players for both sides are then selected by the captains. Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald have both now announced their selections, meaning the teams have been finalised. Here are the final line-ups:
Europe: Automatic qualifiers + Shane Lowry, John Rahm, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Ludvig Aberg.
United States: Automatic qualifiers + Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantley and Sam Burns
There are no rules against LIV players playing at the Ryder Cup. However, as LIV events do not count towards qualifying points, it is harder for a LIV tour member to amass enough points to make the team. LIV stars Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrell Hatton both automatically qualified, but John Rahm had to wait for a phone call from Luke Donald to confirm his spot.
