There was a jam-packed sporting schedule at the weekend and we have combed through the major events to find where our canny spread betting punters got one over our traders.

MANCHESTER UNITED v CHELSEA – BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 110)

Manchester United kickstarted their season with a 2-1 win over Chelsea in torrential rain at Old Trafford on Saturday. Ruben Amorim’s side were under plenty of pressure ahead of the match, but they were given a helping hand after Robert Sanchez was shown a straight red card early on.

On the stroke of half time, with Manchester United 2-0 up, Casemiro was shown a second yellow card for the hosts, which was great news for those who had bought Bookings at 47-51.

With referee Peter Bankes busy throughout, Bookings eventually settled at 110 with buyers landing a big winning bet of 59x their stake.

WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS WOMEN’S 800m – KEELY HODGKINSON 50-25-10 (SETTLED AT 10)

In what was a fairly miserable World Athletics Championships for British athletes, there was genuine hope of a one-two in the women’s 800m on Sunday. Keely Hodgkinson was aiming to back up her Olympics gold medal, a race in which training partner Georgia Hunter Bell won the bronze.

Everything looked to be going to plan for the British pair as they rounded the final bend, but they were run down by Kenya’s Lilian Odiro in the Tokyo rain, with Hunter Bell pipping Hodgkinson to silver.

Most people would be happy with a bronze at a major championship, but Hodgkinson was a huge favourite heading into the race and she will have been disappointed not to clinch the title. Sent off as a 38-41 favourite on our Race Index spread, her third-place finish earned ten points as sellers won 28x their stake.

BOURNEMOUTH v NEWCASTLE – TOTAL GOAL MINUTES (SETTLED AT 0)

The only people who will have enjoyed watching Bournemouth’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle yesterday would have been defensive coaches and sellers of Total Goal Minutes.

The editors of Match Of The Day had their work cut out compiling a highlights package in a match which saw very little action at either end of the pitch. Justin Kluivert came closest to opening the scoring when his free kick forced Nick Pope into a sprawling save late on in the match.

As far as sell bets on Total Goal Minutes goes, yesterday would have been relatively stress free and those who did sell at 137-147 were left with a maximum win of 137x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
